This article will walk you through the basics of restoring into a cloud-based system.
The example shown below is restoring into MyCase, but the process is very similar for any cloud-based system.
1. When you open Universal Migrator, you will see the main dashboard.
To begin a restore, click Restore either from the left menu or the button in the center of the window.
2. Find the platform you want to restore into.
You can use the search box to filter through the list of systems, which will make it easier to find the one you're looking for.
3. Choose the project database you previously backed up from the source system.
This will be the data you are restoring into the destination system.
4. Authenticate to the destination platform. This section will vary slightly based on the destination system.
Click the appropriate authentication option, and a browser window will open, prompting you to enter the credentials for the destination platform.
5. Enter the username and password for your destination platform.
Click
LOG IN
6. Click Allow to confirm that you're granting Universal Migrator permission to access the destination system.
7. This screen contains several important details that you should carefully review before proceeding.
I’ve highlighted four key areas to double-check:
- System Injector: Ensure you’ve selected the correct injector for the system. For example, I’m using "Universal Restore for MyCase," and MyCase is the destination platform.
- Correct Database: Verify that you’ve selected the right project database. In this case, I’m working on TestFirm.com for this restore, and I’ve selected the correct database.
- User Authentication: Ensure it indicates "1 Users Authenticated" near the center-right of the screen.
- Log Area: This will display different information depending on the destination system. Somewhere in the log area, it will show the name or username of the authenticated account.
In this example GMF@iMoveDocs.com is the correct username I should be authenticated under. (arrow showing Authenticated as...)
Once you've double checked that everything looks good, click 'Next'.
8. Select all the items you want to restore into the destination system. Take a moment to review your selections carefully.
Once you’re sure everything is ready, click Next to begin restoring data.
9. Universal Migrator will provide detailed logging throughout the restoration process.
Monitor the progress of your migration.
