Configuring Windows Updates

Configuring Windows Updates

Keeping your system updated is essential for maintaining security, performance, and compatibility with the latest features.
In this article, we’ll walk you through how to configure Windows Update settings for a migration workstation.

  1. Open Settings
Click the Start button and type Settings
    Click Open
  2. Navigate to Windows Update
This will open the Windows Update panel, where you can manage updates.
  3. Set Update Preferences
    Click on Advanced Options
  4. In this menu, configure the following settings, leave the rest as default.
Receive updates for other Microsoft products: Turn this On
Notify me when a restart is required to finish updating: Turn this On
  5. Set Active Hours (to prevent updates from interrupting your work)
    Click Active Hours
  6. Click on Adjust active hours
    Select Manually
Set the active hours from 1PM to 7AM
    Notes
We recommend setting Active Hours from 1 PM to 7 AM, as these times align with when migrations happen.
This will force any Windows Updates to happen during business hours which is actually exactly when you want them to happen.
(If they happened at night, they could interrupt a migration.)
