Detaching a VHD

Detaching a VHD

  1. Open Computer Management
    Search for Computer Management in the Start Menu

  2. Go to Disk Management
    In the left panel, expand Storage and click on Disk Management

  3. Locate the Mounted VHD Drive
    Identify the virtual drive by its letter (e.g., F:)
    Note the different colored icon
    Right click on the left (Disk # label side)
    Select Detach VHD

  4. Confirm the VHD File Path
    A window will pop up showing the path to the mounted VHD file.
    Confirm it's correct and click OK.

  5. Verify the Drive Has Been Removed
    The drive letter (e.g., F:) should disappear from both Disk Management and File Explorer.
