02.01 - Refreshing a Migration Workstation

We do a lot of work to ensure that the procedures in our documentation are always accurate and up to date.

Over time, migration workstations naturally drift from our recommended configuration.  This is completely normal and happens for a few reasons:
  1. As new versions of software are released we update our documentation to match the latest updates.
  2. As we discover better ways to do/setup things, we update our configurations and processes.
  3. As migration consultants use migration workstations, they naturally get messy: new software gets installed, settings get changed, and artifacts from historical migrations tend to accumulate.
Each calendar year, usually in the December-January timeframe, Universal Migrator will notify you that new configurations are available.  When you receive this notification, you should do the following:
  1. Create new Migration Workstations (VMs) that match the current recommended configurations.
  2. Begin using your new Migration Workstations for any future projects.
  3. Wrap up any migrations that are using your legacy Migration Workstations.
  4. Archive any legacy Migration Workstations
By following these procedures you ensure that you are always using a reliable migration workstation that is configured according to the current best practices.

Once you receive this notice, we will begin phasing out legacy migration workstations based on the following timeline:
  1. Approximately 30-days after the notice is provided, activation requests will no longer be approved for legacy migration workstations.
  2. Approximately 60-days after the notice is provided, existing activations tied to legacy migration workstations will be disabled.
In the event extenuating circumstances prevent you from accomplishing the above tasks, please contact us and we may be able to grant a temporary exception.
