03 - Configuring a Migration Workstation (for Multiple Concurrent Migrations)
Recommended Location
A migration workstation configured this way should be located:
- in your office or your data center
Recommended Specs
Before we get started, you should have a modern PC with the following specs or better.
Recommended Hardware
- Windows 11 Pro. A fresh installation that has never been attached to a domain.
- Wired internet connection. This means there is some form of wire connection that is unbroken from your PC to the internet. This would exclude using satellite, or a cellular based modem that you connect your PC to using a wire as there is a portion of the connection path that is not wired.
- 100Mbit+ Internet Connection. This means the migration workstation must have an internet connection with sufficient speeds for facilitating a data backup.
- i9-13900K Processor* or above
- 64 GB of RAM* or more
128GB of RAM Recommended
- Three PCIE4+ M.2 SSDs that are 4Tb each*
Five Drives Recommended
At a minimum, these drives should support read/write speeds of 3500mb/sec.
- One HDD (spinning disk) 20 Tb drive
Two Drives Recommended
* No Old Parts: No PC should be used that has a CPU, RAM, SSD Hard Drive(s) with a model number that was first manufactured more than three years ago.

Required Software Configuration
Once the above system is available, please install the following software on exactly as specified.
- Install Windows or Reset Windows
- Configure UAC
- Configure Power Settings
- Enable Long Paths
- Configure Windows
- Create a StorageSpace out of your SSDs
- Name the StorageSpace FAST and give it the drive letter V:\
- Create a StorageSpace out of your HDD
- Name the StorageSpace SLOW and give it the drive letter S:\
- Install and Configure TeamViewer
- Install and Configure HyperV
- For each concurrent migration you want to run:
- Create a HyperV Virtual Machine
- Configure it as a Migration Workstation
