02 - Configuring a Migration Workstation (For One Concurrent Migration)

Recommended Location

A migration workstation configured this way can be located in any of the following locations:
  1. in your office
  2. in your data center
  3. on the same network as the customer's server (if they are moving from an on-premise application)

Hardware Specifications

Standard Specs

(For Firms with less than 100 total users - including inactive users.)

  • Windows 11 Pro. A fresh installation that is has never been attached to a domain, Microsoft Entra, or similar technology.
  • Wired internet connection.  This means there is some form of wire connection that is unbroken from your PC to the internet.  This would exclude using satellite, or a cellular based modem that you connect your PC to using a wire as there is a portion of the connection path that is not wired.
  • 100Mbit+ Internet Connection.  This means the migration workstation must have an internet connection with sufficient speeds for facilitating a data backup.
  • i7-12700K Processor* or above
  • 32 GB of RAM* or more
  • Hard Drives * configured as specified:
    • Use only PCIE4 M.2-or-above SSDs
    • Supports read/write speeds of at least 3500mb/sec.
    • If no data is being backed up from cloud systems:
      • The C:\ drive should be at least 1TB in size per 10-million documents.
    • If less than 2TB of data are being backed up from cloud systems:
      • The C:\ drive should be at least 1TB in size per 10-million documents plus twice the size of any documents that will be backed up from any cloud-based systems. **
    • If more than 2TB of data are being backed up from cloud systems:
      • The C:\ drive should be at least 1TB in size per 10-million documents.
      • Additional 4-TB-or-above M.2 SSDs should be installed so that the total non-C-drive space is twice the size of any documents that will be backed up from any cloud-based systems. **

* No Old Parts:  No PC should be used that has a CPU, RAM, SSD Hard Drive(s) with a model number that was first manufactured more than three years ago.
** If you are migrating from an on-premise application that stores documents on a local server/file share, then you do not need the additional storage. 


Enterprise Specs

(For firms with more than 100 total users - including inactive users)

  • Windows 11 ProA fresh installation that is has never been attached to a domain.
  • Wired internet connection.  This means there is some form of wire connection that is unbroken from your PC to the internet.  This would exclude using satellite, or a cellular based modem that you connect your PC to using a wire as there is a portion of the connection path that is not wired.
  • 100Mbit+ Internet Connection.  This means the migration workstation must have an internet connection with sufficient speeds for facilitating a data backup.
  • i7-12700K Processor* or above
  • 128 GB of RAM* or more
  • At Least three PCIE4+ M.2 SSDs that *:
    • Are 4,000GB in Size
    • Supports read/write speeds of at least 7000mb/sec.
    • In aggregate, are twice the size of any documents that will be backed up from any cloud-based systems. **

* No Old Parts:  No PC should be used that has a CPU, RAM, SSD Hard Drive(s) with a model number that was first manufactured more than three years ago.
** If you are migrating from an on-premise application that stores documents on a local server/file share, then you do not need the additional storage.
